5 TIPS TO ATTRACTING NETWORKING SUCCESS
“MORE BUSINESS | MORE PLEASURE | MORE MOGUL”
In the year 2014 business and society move fast and never slow down. Professionals who wish to spawn successful circumstances or manifest brilliant ideas need the edge to come out on top. One of the biggest tools to growing a professional scenario, career, or entity is networking.
Of course everyone’s best advice when they’re asked “how do I get my business off the ground” is: “Oh yeah, you have to network hard!” While there is no doubt to this truth on our part, we want you to know that things are easier said than done. But even that mentality yeilds results below 100%. The truth is “networking hard” is hard work. However, these five tips may truly provide an idea of how important all that talk in business is about “the bigger picture.” Then “networking hard” will be as fun as it is difficult.
1. KNOW YOUR AGENDA
If you’re going to network hard, you need to have thought out your reasons whyeven harder. Prepare an agenda. An agenda is an actual purpose for something- in this case networking. Ask the questions: “What are my objectives?” and “Who can help achieve this?” By knowing your objectives you’ve opened your mind to the famous problem solver mentality. To get specific: if you visit a networking event decide (depending on the specifics of the scenario) who you would like to meet and/or what you would like to happen during this event. Visualize the scenario(s) that could benefit you the most at the event and hold on to the thought the entire time you’re networking. Personally I shoot for the events’ hosts or “stars of the show.” When visiting a concert my agenda is to meet the performer. When networking at a huge elaborate seminar or workshop event, my agenda is to meet the person(s) who made the event possible. And a great way to keep in touch with all these CEOs you meet is email & LinkedIn.
2. INTRODUCE YOUR AGENDA TO MR. OPPORTUNITY
Now that you understand what we mean by “agenda,” and you understand to have clearly thought out your objectives, it’s time for immediate action– a key ingredient in the potion of opportunistic manifestation. There are two broad categories of networking. Networking In-Person & Online-Social-Networking. All of these tips for attracting networking success apply to both instances of making new beneficial connections. This is why it is important that you introduce your agendas to Mr. Opportunity. This means that it is time you let the world know what you want to do! This isn’t wishful thinking or begging for help, this is scouting like a senior public relations representative for assets to your objectives. Take chances! Step out of your comfort zone and engage that person who looked important to know! Period. Fuel your agenda with the responses from other people and companies. Let people know what you do! Tweet people with your material. Don’t be afraid to hand out your business card to everyone you feel compelled to. Don’t be afraid to want a closer connection than that cliche business card. In the networking world, what typical people call “boasting” is actually just standard conversation. You make introductions by asking “so what do you do?” Take action by speaking your agenda up to anyone who will worthily listen, which brings us to our next point.
3. DEFLECT & DETACH
It’s already tough to remain in the constant, courageous mind-state of diligently speaking out to people about your project(s) and expertise. There is no need to take the responses you receive negatively or personally. Never even consider feeling “bad” about a critical response that may daunt you. When people begin reworking your idea with their less helpful ranting of “what would be a good idea” recognize whether or not their comments are of real use to you. Start by believing that some things that people say may truly be irrelevant “small talk” to kill time and converse. People love “small talk.” And that’s one reason why people have a hard time generating enough steam to manifest large ideas or projects. Focus on the “bigger picture.” Some kind of way, it always almost mystically leads you to your desired goals and objectives! Embrace compliments, ignore tasteless remarks, and learn to love significant conversations over “small talk” and fluff. Detach yourself from meticulous plans and constant worrying about outcomes. It’s better peace-of-mind to attach yourself to your goals, and detach yourself from the exact way they will be achieved. I’ve told people multiple times “Plans can fail. Goals and Objectives are only achieved.”
4. — USE TECHNOLOGY
This article was originally written in 2012. The almost obvious truth is that we’ve entered into the era of great technological advancement now. In social studies and world history classes students learn about the “Industrial Era”– a great age of machines and manual labor. Well 2012 gave birth to the official “Technological Era”– a great age of merging mind and technology. The climb to this new era really picked up speed at the turn of the millennium (year 2000).
The 4th tip to networking success is: Get with the picture and use technology! The internet is infinite now, and full of the absolute best tools for social networking and viral marketing. Anything you want to do can be explained to you, and you can find online tools, education, and components that are specifically designed to help you achieve these goals. I am also a BMI registered musician and I’ve published a full discography of personal works to the entire world all on my own with TuneCore– a distribution service open to the public. My point is that 10 years ago getting your music on iTunes or Amazon required a major record label and probably a distribution deal. The second coming of media– the world wide web, is swamping television and radio combined. Our best advice? You or your business should have a facebook [business page], not just a profile. If you’re seeking to network professionally, you should also have a LinkedInaccount that is updated and completed to the best of your ability and satisfaction. Linkedin is as big as it gets professionally. Also if you own a business, build a company page here on LinkedIn. Youtube & Vimeo can work wonders if you’re growing an idea or business. Motion picture is the audience’s favorite form of engaging media. Video is statistically the strongest and most impactful way to engage a following or target market. Last, but not least, twitter & instagram. Learn how to tweet. So what if you “never use it.” Google around about how beneficial twitter really is to the business world and then copy the Fortune 500 companies. Marketing on instagram can never hurt either. You can film, edit, and upload 15-second, 1080p video right from many mobile devices.
To dig EVEN DEEPER utilize the many new services and apps readily available to empower your professional life! O-desk is a great place to hire affordable freelancers and virtual assistants in the tech and creative fields. Fiverr offers a wide range of services starting at $5. Moxtra is a power messaging app on iPhone, Android, PC, and Mac that can change your life by organizing any file-type you want into an infinite cloud-based chat room. I use it to effectively navigate and organize documents, notes, PDF presentations, plans, flight itineraries, maps, bookmarks, to-do-tasks, photos, and literature content. I even create audio/visual keynotes for my executive team, and develop private virtual office “binders” to manage progress and clients on their individual projects with my selected team. UBER is another amazing service that offers private chauffeuring at unmatched prices. Download the app and find out if UBER is in your city. (I never miss an event with this resource readily available). Only in 2014 can you tap your touch-screen a few times and manifest a personal ride to your event without being a celebrity or high ranking public official.
5. LIVE OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Manifesting is hard work. You are literally creating a live-action scenario that occurs similar to that of only an imagined idea. The biggest part is: having faith andcourage in knowing that what you want to happen can happen, and will happen- especially if you take constant action toward that objective. That’s why we say“always hang the big picture up. It’s usually a guaranteed portrait of success.” To put it all in more latent terms: “the harder you seek, search, and desire to meet an objective, the harder it is seeking, searching, and desiring to meet you.”
